Inclusive neighbourhood classrooms for ALL
- Ensure learners with special needs have access to proper supports and resources.
- Ensure ALL unique learners such as those with special needs, exceptionalities, English language learners (ELL), indigenous, adult students and youth in care are acknowledged, accommodated and provided with necessary supports.
Safe and Welcoming for ALL
- Ensure all students and staff have a safe environment in which to learn and teach.
- Ensure that all facilities are seismically fit and ‘Right Sized’ to address the needs of today and tomorrow.
- Reinstitute the School Liaison Officer (SLO) preventative program along with the recently introduced VSB Safe and Caring School Department.
- Address the social emotional needs of students.
- Ensure accessible playgroups in neighbourhood clusters.
Develop individualized learning opportunities to challenge and satisfy the needs of ALL learners
- Restore honours classes to schools.
- Introduce support programs such as financial, charitable literacy, coding and language classes in neighbourhood clusters.
Manage the human resources that are critical for learning
- Address staffing and skill shortages and retention issues amongst teachers, educational assistants, and early childhood educators.
- Actively partner and manage with community groups to offer wrap-around services such as before and after school opportunities within self-managed schools to support learners, their families and the community.
